Located southeast of Cienfuegos Bay this lagoon was formed by Arimao river before flowing into the bay. It is the only protected area of the province which includes also Labyrinth Naturals, Key Ocampo and other minor keys. Guanaroca name is linked to a beautiful aboriginal legend, it’s 3000 hectares are populated by mangroves which are the inhabited of 170 varieties of exotic and endemic birds such as the “Cartacuba”, ‘Tomeguín del Pinar”, la “Corúa”, “Pelicans”, y el “Tocororo”, which is our national bird. A colony of more than two hundred pink flamingos and many important aboriginal archaeological sites add a magic charm to this place. The lagoon is also considered the largest natural shrimp farm in Cienfuegos.
